Eating and Drinking
A breakfast at Gunjur Project Lodge is a good and healthy start of your day.
Every morning we get Tapalapa, this is the local bread which is baked fresh several times during the day. We make a fresh juice, get you organic local jam and honey, slice you some cheese, cut you fresh fruit. You have a choice of eggs and not to forget fresh coffee, tea or hot chocolate. Surely this will get you started.
This breakfast is served every day in our restaurant from 8 till 10am. If you want to have your breakfast in your room or in the garden just let us know the day before! On request you can order extra's to complement your breakfast.
For lunch and dinner we have a small set menu in addition to our daily changing specials. Every day we get our fish fresh from local fishermen and we go straight to the garden to pull our fresh salad and vegetables and take fruit straight from the trees. Anything else that we need we nip to the market to buy. Local fishermen also supply us with shrimps, tiger prawns, lobster, squid and local oysters. For meat we go to one of the best butchers in The Gambia. We try to use as much local and organic produce as possible to serve you food we like to call Honest Food.
We have a wide range of vegetarian options on our menu and if you have special requirements we will try our utmost to cater for you.
We have a daily Gambian or Senegalese dish on the menu, if you want to we can even teach you how to cook it yourself. When we think the time is right (or you think so) we bring out the barbecue, put it in the garden or on the beach and we start grilling. It's always a special time when we do our barbecues and at night time we even bring out the drums and light the camp fire!
We have hosted many birthday parties at the project and each time a fantastic buffet spread, is laid offering both meat and vegetarian options. Kodu Njie, our in-house trained cook, has developed an art in making cakes and her finishing icing designs are fantastic. In February 2011 we hosted our first wedding at the Project, from canapes in the afternoon to a full buffet & wedding cake in the evening. We strive to ensure your every celebration request is met!
